Domaines Ott in Provence represent the excellence of Provençal wine, combining tradition, innovation, and a deep respect for the terroir. Founded by Marcel Ott in 1896, Domaines Ott today consists of three distinct properties: Château de Selle, Clos Mireille and Château Romassan. Each of these estates has its own identity, reflecting the diversity and richness of Provence's terroirs.

History of the Estates

Château de Selle

Château de Selle, the first of the Domaines Ott, was acquired by Marcel Ott in 1912. Located in the commune of Taradeau, near Draguignan, the estate was originally an old hunting lodge. Marcel Ott undertook a long process of renovating the land and vineyards to transform this place into a prestigious wine estate. Today, Château de Selle is renowned for its elegant and refined wines, primarily high-quality rosés.

Clos Mireille

Clos Mireille, purchased in 1936, is located near the Mediterranean Sea, in La Londe-les-Maures. This estate benefits from a unique microclimate thanks to its proximity to the sea, which moderates temperatures and provides a beneficial sea breeze. The schist soils, rare in Provence, give a distinctive minerality to the wines of Clos Mireille, especially the whites and rosés.

Château Romassan

Château Romassan, the last acquisition of the Ott family in 1956, is located in Bandol, one of the most prestigious appellations in Provence. Marcel Ott and his descendants replanted the vineyards and restored the estate's historic buildings. Château Romassan is renowned for its structured and powerful red wines, as well as its sophisticated rosés.

Vines, Terroir and Winemaking

Château de Selle

The vineyards of Château de Selle are planted on clay-limestone and stony soils, offering excellent drainage and a mineral diversity that enriches the wines. The main grape varieties include Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The winemaking is carried out with meticulous care, combining traditional methods with modern techniques to guarantee the purity and quality of the wines.

Clos Mireille

The vines of Clos Mireille extend over schist and clay soils, offering a unique combination of minerality and freshness. The main grape varieties are Sémillon, Rolle (Vermentino) and Grenache. The winemaking here focuses on the pure expression of the terroir, with slow fermentations and ageing on lees to add complexity and depth to the wines.

Château Romassan

Château Romassan benefits from clay-limestone soils and stony terraces ideal for growing Mourvèdre, the emblematic grape variety of Bandol, as well as Grenache and Cinsault. The winemaking focuses on gentle extraction and ageing in oak barrels for the reds, which thereby develop their structure and complex aromas over the years. The rosés are vinified to preserve their freshness and intense fruitiness.

The Cuvées of Domaines Ott

Château de Selle Côte de Provence Rosé: An iconic rosé, fresh and elegant, with aromas of red fruits and flowers, with a beautiful minerality. A subtle balance between structure and finesse, a tension that reflects the estate: limestone hills, arid soil and exceptional sunshine!

Château de Selle Côte de Provence Rouge: An ode to fruit with magnificent Syrahs and Cabernet Sauvignons! Aridity and soils of limestone and clay mixed with gravel and stones produce low yields, resulting in wines bursting with red fruit flavours (blueberry, cherry, blackcurrant) that evolve towards notes of chocolate and spice.

The estate also produces BY OTT cuvées in rosé, white and red in the new Chai at Château de Selle, where a dedicated vat room is exclusively devoted to them.

Clos Mireille Côtes de Provence Rosé: a luminous personality that shines through its proximity to the Mediterranean and is expressed in a blend of grape varieties typical of the Côtes de Provence appellation. Predominantly Grenache for its fruit and vinosity, Cinsault for its suppleness and Syrah for its fruity roundness. Fresh fruits on the nose (melon, mango), citrus notes and citrus aromas with a beautiful minerality.

Clos Mireille Côtes de Provence Blanc: Sémillon and Rolle blend wonderfully in this ample cuvée with a saline character, thanks to a schist terroir with no limestone. Sémillon provides the structure and opulence while Rolle, an aromatic grape variety, brings balance and complexity. Ageing in oak foudres adds a patina to this wine with fine ageing potential. Aromas of ripe fruits and exotic fruits on the nose are crowned by floral notes. Freshness and acidity on the palate, with notes of honey and a crisp finish.

Château Romassan Bandol Rosé: a magnificent Bandol blend. Mourvèdre for robustness, structure and ageing potential; Grenache for depth, Cinsault for suppleness and a small proportion of Syrah for fruity roundness. A beautiful Bandol terroir with arid soils composed of limestone, sandstone and sandy marl, a sunny and particularly dry climate of course. Aromas of citrus fruits and white flowers on the nose precede a lively attack on the palate, dotted with notes of pink grapefruit, fleshy fruits and fruit tarts, all with a persistent and very pleasant finish — perfect as an aperitif or at the table!

Château Romassan Bandol Rouge: A magnificent Bandol Rouge! The vines are trained en gobelet, on individual stakes, individually trellised to allow natural shading: low yields for precise and balanced wines, deep, concentrated with silky tannins.

Also discover the Etoile Rosé cuvée (Vin de France), a symbol of the union of these three unique Provençal terroirs! A complex and elegant wine, perfectly balanced, reflecting the great expertise of the winemakers, worthy of joining the lineage of the great wines of Provence.
