The Côte-Rôtie La Mordorée 2013 from M. Chapoutier, from micaceous schists, is an elegant Syrah from the Northern Rhône. Aged 18 months in barrels, it marries raspberry, violet and spices with a structured and mineral palate. A wine for cellaring (15 years and more), it pairs perfectly with game and rich dishes.
A family house rooted in the steep hillsides of the Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier perpetuates a winemaking heritage where respect for the terroir has been paramount since 1808.
- Terroir: The micaceous and ferruginous schists of Côte-Rôtie, bathed in light and swept by the north wind, sculpt Syrahs of vibrant minerality and rare elegance.
- Winemaking: A biodynamic approach, manual harvesting and precise aging in French oak barrels reveal the purity of the fruit and the tension of the terroir.
Tasting Notes for M. Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie La Mordorée 2013
To the eye – A deep purple robe with garnet reflections, dense and silky.
On the nose – First, the fruity freshness of raspberry and violet, then deeper notes of black olive and tapenade, lifted by a saline touch and accents of rosemary and gentle spices.
On the palate – An ample and taut texture, where a lively acidity and chalky minerality support a generous mid-palate, while silky tannins extend into a long, saline and spiced finish.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Burgundy-style red wine glass to release its full complexity.
