The Guigal Saint-Joseph 2009 white from E. Guigal, sourced from the limestone soils of Saint-Joseph, blends Marsanne (95%) and Roussanne. Aged in stainless steel and barrels, it offers notes of yellow fruits and flowers, a lively and mineral palate. To be enjoyed until 2024 with fish or aged cheeses.
A family estate rooted in Ampuis, E. Guigal has embodied the excellence of wines from the northern Rhône Valley for three generations.
- Terroir: Sandy-gravelly limestone soils on the slopes of Saint-Joseph, between Tournon and Sarras, where Marsanne and Roussanne draw their minerality.
- Vinification: A blend of tradition and precision – controlled fermentation, aging shared between stainless steel vats and oak barrels to preserve freshness and complexity.
Tasting notes for E. Guigal Saint-Joseph 2009 white wine
To the eye: A golden robe with pale reflections, of a silky clarity and a chalky brilliance that already hints at a promising texture.
On the nose: Aromas of yellow peach and ripe apricot intertwine with notes of orange blossom and linden, before a saline touch and a hint of wild honey reveal the depth of the terroir.
On the palate: A lively and precise attack, carried by a taut acidity that balances a fleshy and velvety substance, while a chalky minerality extends the finish with nuances of candied citrus and gentle spices.
Serve between 10 and 12 °C in a Burgundy-style white wine glass to bring out its purity and length.
Vintage 2009
A generous vintage in which the summer heat ripened the grapes without compromising their freshness, yielding a Saint-Joseph white that is both rich and balanced.
- Aging potential: Best enjoyed between 2010 and 2014, stored in cool conditions (12–14 °C) and away from light.
