This Hermitage Ex Voto 2017 from Guigal, a Syrah aged in oak barrels, draws its character from the granite terroirs of the appellation. Aromas of blackberry and spices, a dense and mineral palate — decant from 2025 onwards to accompany duck breast or a game stew.
A family house rooted in Ampuis, E. Guigal has embodied the excellence of wines from the Rhône Valley for three generations.
- Terroir: From the granite hillsides of Hermitage with soils of pebbles and alluvium, an exceptional terroir shapes wines of rare mineral depth.
- Vinification: Patient aging in new oak barrels, respect for individual plots and pursuit of a pure, structured expression of the Syrah grape variety.
Tasting Notes for E. Guigal Hermitage Ex Voto 2017
To the eye: A deep red robe with garnet highlights, dense and silky, betraying a generous substance and mineral elegance.
On the nose: Aromas of wild blackberry and blackcurrant mingle with notes of liquorice, cedar, and black pepper, lifted by a saline touch and a subtle graphite smokiness.
On the palate: A velvety and full-bodied texture is balanced by a lively acidity and chalky minerality, while precise tannins extend a long and taut finish.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Burgundy-style red wine glass to reveal its full complexity.
2017 Vintage
A sunny and generous vintage, in which the summer heat concentrated the fruit while preserving the mineral freshness characteristic of great Hermitage wines.
- Aging potential: Store for 10 to 20 years in a cool cellar (12–14°C) away from light for optimal development.
