Guigal Château d'Ampuis 1996
The Château d'Ampuis 1996 (E. Guigal) is a Côte-Rôtie from schist soils, blending Syrah and Viognier. Aged 38 months in new barrels, it reveals a dark robe, notes of spices and blackberry, and a texture that is both powerful and velvety. Perfect with lamb, to be enjoyed before 2013.

- Terroir: Seven emblematic parcels – Côte Blonde and Côte Brune – where schist and granite soils sculpt wines of vibrant minerality.
- Vinification: Patient aging in French oak barrels, revealing a silky tannic structure and a deep aromatic complexity.
Tasting notes for the Guigal Château d'Ampuis 1996
To the eye: A deep red robe with mauve reflections, dense and luminous, betraying a rich substance and an almost silky texture.
On the nose: Aromas of wild blackberry and candied plum intertwine with notes of liquorice, black pepper and cedar, before a saline touch underlines the minerality of the terroir.
On the palate: A generous attack where the tension of the tannins, both firm and velvety, is balanced by a lively acidity and a long finish, marked by nuances of cocoa and blonde tobacco.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Burgundy glass to release its full complexity.
