Guigal Côte Rôtie Château d'Ampuis 2019
The Guigal Côte Rôtie Château d'Ampuis 2019, from the schistous terroirs of Côte-Rôtie, blends Syrah and Viognier. After 38 months in new oak barrels, it offers notes of blackberry, spices and a velvety texture. Perfect until 2035 with a leg of lamb or a mature cheese.
E. Guigal
A family house rooted in the Rhône Valley since 1946, E. Guigal embodies the demands of an exceptional terroir and respect for a winemaking heritage.
- Terroir: Seven iconic plots of Côte-Rôtie – Côte Blonde and Côte Brune –, where schistous and granitic soils sculpt the mineral and elegant identity of the wines.
- Vinification: A precise blend of Syrah and Viognier, aged 38 months in new oak barrels for an expression that is both powerful and refined.
Tasting notes for E. Guigal Côte Rôtie Château d'Ampuis 2019
To the eye: A deep purple robe with garnet highlights, of silky density and a brilliance that heralds a generous and precise structure.
On the nose: First aromas of wild blackberry and fresh blackcurrant, followed by a touch of violet and liquorice, before opening up to notes of cedar and a subtle mineral salinity.
On the palate: A velvety texture, carried by a lively acidity and mineral tension, where firm yet silky tannins stretch into a long, chalky finish marked by gentle spices.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Burgundy-style red wine glass to release its full complexity.
Vintage 2019
A sun-drenched vintage where the heat ripened grapes of rare concentration, balanced by a mineral freshness characteristic of the great terroirs of Côte-Rôtie.
- Aging potential: Store 15 to 20 years in a cool cellar (12–14°C) and away from light, to allow the tannins to refine and the aromas to gain in complexity.
