Tasting notes for Château Haut-Brion 1971
Appearance: A garnet-red color with brick-red highlights and a silky depth that reveals nearly half a century of slow maturation.
On the nose: Initial aromas of candied sour cherry and wild blackberry give way to a burst of light tobacco, aged leather and a saline touch reminiscent of damp woodland after rain.
On the palate: A velvety texture, supported by lively acidity and chalky minerality, extends into a long, harmonious finish where gentle spices mingle with hints of graphite.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux glass to bring out its full complexity.
1971 vintage
A balanced vintage in which oceanic freshness preserved the delicacy of the tannins and the finesse of the aromas.
- Aging potential: At its peak today, this wine can still be cellared for another 5 to 10 years at a stable temperature (12–14°C) and controlled humidity.
