The Henri Giraud Champagne is located on the exceptional terroir of Aÿ, one of the 17 Grand Cru villages, among the 323 villages with the Champagne designation. The House of Champagne Giraud has been passed on from generation to generation since the 17th century and today counts among the elite of Champagne houses. Its Ay terroir is gaining its renown thanks to its magnificent Pinot noir and its superb Champagne hillsides, allowing it to reach maturity and finesse. Aÿ is marked by poor soil, exposed due south and crossed by the fresh air currents of the Marne.
The owner, Claude Giraud, twelfth generation of the Giraud-Hemart family from Champagne, is a fervent lover of underbrush ageing, worthy of the great white wines of Burgundy. A visionary, he knew how to propel the House into an icon of Champagne, by combining chalk from Aÿ grand cru to the gaize of the Argonne forest from the 1990s.
With the help of his son-in-law, cellar master since the mid-2000s, Claude Giraud distinguished his production by aging some of his clear wines on whole lees in small oak barrels, produced from the wood of the Argonne forest, the great Champagne forest.
This ageing method had been abandoned in Champagne since 1950 and gives the wine elegance, richness and woody notes, signature of the Maison Giraud. The Giraud style is discovered with the Esprit Nature cuvee and the initiates quickly turn to the Hommage, Code Noir, Dame Jane or even Fut de Chene MV cuvees, until they discover Argonne champagne, an intense, vibrant and unforgettable champagne. After the success of the 2004 vintage, the 2008 Argonne vintage recently appeared on the market. Only 4000 bottles are produced of this unique gastronomic champagne.
More accessible, the whole world is demanding the famous Cuvee Fut de Chene MultiVintage, whose success was incredible in 2013 and which expresses the style of the Champagne House with its unique bottle and its perfect balance.
In 2008, half of the harvest was vinified in the new winery in Ay, which today hosts more than 400 new barrels, kept for five years and then sold in Japan for making sake. Maison Giraud is a specialist in its terroir, taking care of its ecological impact and working for sustainable development. Claude Giraud markets in 2017 the first bottles of champagnes guaranteed "zero pesticide residue".
