Domaine Auguste Clape
A historic pillar of Cornas, this family estate has embodied for generations the northern soul of the Rhône – a terroir of schist and sunshine where Syrah expresses itself with rare authenticity.
- Terroir: Vineyards rooted on the steep hillsides of Cornas, where the granitic and schistous soils, bathed in a continental climate, sculpt wines of vibrant minerality and unique tannic depth.
- Vinification: Traditional methods – manual destemming, extended maceration and barrel aging – to preserve the purity of the fruit and the natural tension of the grape variety.
Tasting notes for Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas Renaissance 2020
To the eye: A deep purple robe with garnet reflections, dense and luminous.
On the nose: An explosion of ripe dark fruits – black cherry, crushed blackcurrant – followed by notes of damp undergrowth, gunflint and a menthol touch, all enveloped in a gentle, peppery spice.
On the palate: A silky and fleshy texture, carried by a lively acidity that underlines the granitic minerality of the terroir; the tannins, fine and precise, stretch into a saline and persistent finish where wild berries and liquorice nuances intertwine.
Serve between 16 and 18°C, in a Burgundy-style red wine glass to release its complex aromas.

A vintage in which the summer heat, tempered by cool nights, allowed the Syrah to reach ideal ripeness without losing its natural tension.
- Aging potential: At its peak between 2025 and 2035, to be stored in a cool cellar (12–14°C) away from light.
