Sourced from the gravelly soils of Pessac-Léognan, the Chevalier Rouge 1985 from Domaine de Chevalier is a Cru Classé de Graves. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, barrel-aged, it offers aromas of blackberry, tobacco and orange peel. Silky tannins and an earthy finish: ideal with game or beef.
Nestled in the heart of Pessac-Léognan, this family estate has embodied Bordeaux excellence for generations, combining tradition and precision.
- Terroir : Clayey-gravelly Graves soils of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, where poor, well-drained soils shape wines of rare minerality and distinctive elegance.
- Vinification : Aged in oak barrels, hand-harvested and rigorously sorted to produce cuvées where freshness rivals complexity.
Tasting notes for domaine de Chevalier Chevalier 1985
To the eye – A deep carmine robe with ochre highlights, of a silky texture and a density that reveals its age with nobility.
On the nose – Aromas of blackberry intertwine with smoky and hazelnut notes, while a hint of tobacco and candied orange peel adds an earthy depth, lifted by a subtle salinity.
On the palate – Delicate, well-integrated tannins, carried by a lively acidity that balances a chalky minerality; the finish, though shorter than at its peak, lingers with flashes of cherry and a hint of undergrowth.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux glass to reveal its full subtlety.
Vintage 1985
A vintage marked by early maturity and ideal climatic conditions, yielding wines of fleshy roundness while retaining a beautiful tension.
- Aging potential : To be enjoyed without delay, as this wine has already passed its peak; storage in a cool, humid cellar is recommended to preserve its remaining aromas.
