Controlled designation of origin and Grand Vin de Pomerol
Château Pétrus wines
Château Petrus is undoubtedly the most prestigious wine of the Pomerol appellation (AOC on the Right Bank of the Dordogne near Bordeaux). This exceptional vineyard, owned by Maison Jean-Pierre Moueix since 1969, comprises 11.4 hectares of vines planted on very particular soil. The terroir of Château Petrus is indeed composed of a buttonhole of very fine and swelling black and blue clays "montmorillonite," which absorb and release water drop by drop to the vine. The vines, averaging 40 years old, are treated using sustainable methods, and the vineyard consists of a single red grape variety: 100% Merlot (the half-hectare of Cabernet Franc having been uprooted in 2010).
