The Pétrus 1988, jewel of Pomerol, comes from clay-limestone soils where Merlot dominates. This barrel-aged wine offers notes of blackberry, cocoa and spices, with a velvety palate and a persistent minerality. Perfect with duck breast or pan-fried ceps.
Nestled in the heart of Pomerol, Pétrus embodies the excellence of an exceptional terroir, shaped by generations of family expertise.
- Terroir: Deep blue clays of Pomerol, a rare soil that confers upon the Merlot a density and a minerality unique in the Bordeaux region.
- Vinification: Meticulous aging in oak barrels, where precision takes precedence over extraction, yielding wines of a taut and persistent elegance.
Tasting notes for Pétrus 1988
To the eye – A garnet robe with brick-red hues, of a silky density, like a liquid velvet catching the light.
On the nose – First, aromas of wild blackberry and candied prune, then notes of cedar, blonde tobacco and a saline touch reminiscent of damp undergrowth after the rain.
On the palate – A smooth yet vibrant texture, carried by a lively acidity and a chalky minerality, with a long and spiced finish, where liquorice and black pepper intertwine.
Serve at 16-18°C in a Bordeaux glass to release its full complexity.
Vintage 1988
A Bordeaux vintage marked by perfect ripeness, where cool nights preserved the balance and tension of the tannins.
- Aging potential: Drink until 2030, provided it is stored in a cool cellar (12-14°C) and away from light.
