Tasting Notes for Pétrus 1973
To the eye – A garnet red robe with tawny reflections, dense and slightly veiled by time, hinting at a silky texture and generous body.
On the nose – First, aromas of candied prune and mocha, followed by notes of aged leather, blonde tobacco, and a subtle hint of damp undergrowth, lifted by a saline and mineral edge.
On the palate – A velvety, almost unctuous attack, where the maturity of the tannins mingles with a still-lively acidity, carried by flavors of candied dark fruits, licorice, and dried mushroom, leading to a long and persistent finish marked by a chalky elegance.
Serve at 16°C in a Bordeaux glass to release its full complexity.
