The Hermitage Blanc 1999 from Domaine Jean-Louis Chave, sourced from the granitic hillsides of Hermitage, is a rare and elegant white wine with exceptional ageing potential. This blend of Marsanne (80%) and Roussanne reveals aromas of white fruit, honey and almond blossom. On the palate, its silky texture and chalky minerality combine with a vibrant freshness. To enjoy until 2030 with grilled lobster or chicken with morels.
An uninterrupted viticultural heritage since 1481, rooted in the granitic slopes of the Hermitage.
- Terroir: Soils of decomposed granite and rounded pebbles, on the steep hillsides of the Hermitage appellation, in the northern Rhône Valley – a mineral setting that lends the wines their tension and depth.
- Vinification: Aged in oak barrels, respecting natural cycles and seeking a pure expression of the grape variety, where Marsanne brings roundness and Roussanne, aromatic finesse.
Tasting notes for Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc 1999
In the glass: A golden robe with old-gold highlights, of silky density, like liquid honey captured in the light.
On the nose: First notes of acacia blossom and white peach, then hints of roasted hazelnut and beeswax, before a saline touch comes to underline the chalky minerality of the terroir.
On the palate: A rich yet taut texture, carried by a lively acidity that balances the fruit's richness, while a long, saline finish is reminiscent of sun-warmed stones from the Hermitage – a rare elegance, both powerful and precise.
Serve between 12 and 14°C, in a Burgundy-style white wine glass to release its full complexity.

A vintage marked by a hot, dry summer, where cool nights preserved the acidity and tension of the grapes, giving this white wine an ideal structure for ageing.
- Ageing potential: 20 to 25 years, to be kept in a cool cellar (12-14°C) away from light.
