The Léoville Poyferré 1996 Magnum, a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Julien, born on gravel terraces. This blend, aged in oak barrels, reveals notes of blackberry and spices, with a balanced and mineral palate. A wine for aging, ideal with game or mature cheeses.
Nestled in the heart of Saint-Julien, this family estate has embodied the excellence of the Médoc for nearly a century under the stewardship of the Cuvelier family.
- Terroir: 80 hectares of Mindélian gravel over a sandy-clay subsoil, the cradle of great Bordeaux wines with precise tannins and chalky minerality.
- Vinification: Meticulous blending in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by 18 months aging in French oak barrels for a silky structure and harmonious complexity.
To the eye – A deep garnet robe with tawny highlights, of velvety density, revealing a maturity refined by time.
On the nose – First, aromas of candied blackcurrant and wild blackberry, followed by notes of cedar, blonde tobacco and a touch of graphite, all underscored by a subtle mineral salinity.
On the palate – A silky and fleshy texture, supported by a lively acidity and a still-firm tannic frame, culminating in a long and elegant finish where soft spices and hints of aged leather intertwine.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux glass to fully release its aromas.
A vintage defined by perfect grape maturity, yielding structured and well-balanced wines destined for a long evolution.
- Aging potential: Best kept for another 10 to 15 years in a cool cellar (12–14°C) away from light, ideally stored horizontally.
