Born from the clayey gravels of Saint-Julien, the Léoville Barton 2005 is a 2nd Grand Cru Classé in which Cabernet Sauvignon (73%) dominates. Aged 18 months in oak barrels, it offers blackcurrant, spices, and silky tannins. Perfect with game or lamb, it can be kept until 2050.
Heir to a Bordeaux viticultural heritage since 1722, this family estate embodies the excellence of the Saint-Julien appellation.
- Terroir: Clayey gravels of the left bank, where Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes into a mineral and precise structure.
- Vinification: Traditional methods – hand harvesting, aging in French oak barrels – for wines of classic elegance and long aging potential.
To the eye: A deep garnet robe with violet highlights, dense and silky bright, announcing its concentration.
On the nose: Aromas of ripe blackcurrant, wild blackberry, and cedar mingle with notes of blonde tobacco and graphite, lifted by a saline touch and a hint of licorice.
On the palate: A broad and velvety attack, supported by a lively acidity and tight yet silky tannins, while a chalky minerality carries a long and taut finish, where nuances of dark fruits and soft spices linger.
Serve at 16–18 °C in a Bordeaux glass to fully release its expression.
A sunny and well-balanced vintage, where the ripeness of the grapes combines with a mineral freshness for a wine of great precision.
- Aging potential: 20 to 35 years; store in a cellar at 15 °C, away from vibrations and temperature variations.
