The Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets 2023, signed by Domaine Michel Lafarge, reveals the stony soils of Volnay. A biodynamic Pinot Noir, barrel-aged, it offers black plum, earth and a lively palate. Perfect for 10-15 years of cellaring, with duck breast or aged cheeses.
Domaine Michel Lafarge
Heir to a two-hundred-year-old winemaking tradition in Volnay, this family estate embodies the alliance between respect for the terroir and artisanal exigence.
- Terroir: The limestone hillsides of Volnay, where stony soils and steep slopes sculpt wines of rare minerality and natural elegance.
- Winemaking: A biodynamic approach and patient ageing in old barrels to preserve the purity of the Pinot Noir and reveal the tension of the vintage.
Tasting notes for Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets 2023
To the eye: A deep ruby robe with garnet highlights, of a silky and luminous texture.
On the nose: Aromas of black cherry and violet blossom first, followed by a hint of liquorice and damp undergrowth, all lifted by a subtle chalky salinity.
On the palate: A precise and vibrant attack, where the taut acidity embraces a full yet elegant texture, carried by fine tannins and a mineral finish of remarkable length.
Serve at 14-16°C in a Burgundy glass to release its full complexity.
Vintage 2023
A vintage marked by unexpected freshness, where the balance between ripeness and tension gives rise to a Volnay of remarkable finesse.
- Ageing potential: 10 to 15 years, to be stored in a cool cellar (12-14°C) away from vibrations.
