The Château Mouton Rothschild 1984, Premier Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac, is born from gravel and clay. Blended with 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 20 months in barrels, it reveals coffee, liquorice and red fruits. A lively palate, silky tannins and chalky minerality. Pairings: game or duck.
Pauillac has embodied Bordeaux excellence for centuries, and this family estate, elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1973, is one of its most illustrious ambassadors.
- Terroir: Deep gravels, sands and a touch of clay over a marl-limestone bedrock make up this 91-hectare vineyard, where each vine takes root in a soil shaped by time.
- Vinification: A rigorous selection of berries, patient ageing in new oak barrels and a constant pursuit of balance between power and elegance define the Mouton spirit.
Tasting notes for Château Mouton Rothschild 1984
To the eye – A ruby robe with tiled reflections, of a silky density, where light plays with an almost mineral subtlety.
On the nose – First notes of blackcurrant and fresh blackberry, then accents of roasted coffee, sweet liquorice and a touch of cedar, all lifted by a saline edge that evokes the estuary breezes.
On the palate – The texture is velvety, almost fleshy, carried by a lively acidity and a chalky minerality that shapes a long, precise finish, where gentle spices and candied black fruits intertwine.
Serve at 16 °C in a Bordeaux glass to fully release its harmony.
