- Terroir : Deep gravels of the Plateau de Mouton, in the Pauillac appellation, where the gravelly soils sculpt wines of unrivalled minerality and structure.
- Vinification : Manual harvesting, rigorous sorting and ageing in oak barrels for cuvées in which power is allied with silky elegance.
Tasting notes for Château Mouton Rothschild 1999
To the eye – A garnet red robe with brick-tinted highlights, of velvety density, where light dances on slow, generous legs.
On the nose – First, aromas of ripe blackcurrant and wild blackberry, followed by a touch of cedar and blonde tobacco, before a saline, almost iodine-tinged note comes to underscore the depth of the terroir.
On the palate – A silky and taut texture, carried by a lively acidity and a chalky minerality, stretching into a long and precise finish where gentle spices and candied dark fruits intertwine.
Serve at 16-18°C in a Bordeaux glass to unlock its full complexity.
