The Jules Desjourneys estate is currently under the direction of winemaker Fabien Duperray, whose experience was forged alongside some of the most eminent winemakers of Burgundy, notably the brothers Arnaud Ente and Benoit Ente, Christophe Perrot-Minot, and Jean-Yves Bizot. After acquiring considerable expertise, the desire to create his own wines and his own estate led him to venture into Beaujolais, further south, and subsequently to expand his estate with plots located in Saint-Véran, Pouilly-Vinzelles and Pouilly-Fuissé, in the Mâconnais. You will therefore find wines from Burgundy and Beaujolais in this category.

In homage to the regional pope of natural wines, Jules Chauvet, he named his estate Jules Desjourneys. His wines are distinguished by a meticulous approach, both in the vineyards with biodynamic practices and in the cellar.
Philosophy and Approach: The Jules Desjourneys estate is guided by a philosophy that respects nature and terroir. Jules Desjourneys, the winemaker, is known for his commitment to biodynamic viticulture and his refusal to use chemical inputs. He seeks to allow the character of the terroir to fully express itself in his wines.
Vineyard Surface: The Jules Desjourneys estate has a relatively small vineyard surface, but it pays particular attention to each parcel. The vines are located in some of the most beautiful crus of Beaujolais, notably in Fleurie, Moulin à Vent and Chénas.
Grape Varieties Cultivated: Jules Desjourneys focuses primarily on the Gamay grape variety for the production of red wines. Gamay is a grape variety that expresses itself particularly well in Beaujolais, offering fruity and elegant red wines when vinified with care.
Natural Vinification: The estate is renowned for its natural vinification. This means that Jules Desjourneys uses indigenous yeasts for fermentation, avoids adding chemicals and limits the use of sulfur. This approach allows the wines to more faithfully reflect the terroir and present natural characteristics.
Red Wines: The red wines produced by Jules Desjourneys are often described as elegant, expressive and balanced. Gamay, with its fruity profile, is used to create wines that can be both accessible in their youth and capable of aging well in the cellar.
Recognition: Although the estate is not immense, Jules Desjourneys wines have gained international recognition for their quality and authenticity. They are continually sought after by natural wine enthusiasts and those who appreciate pure expressions of terroir.
In summary, the Jules Desjourneys wine estate is distinguished by its natural and biodynamic approach, highlighting Gamay to produce elegant, expressive red wines that respect the terroir.

Despite his strong character, the owner has not given up his passion for prestigious Burgundy Chardonnays!
The estate then expanded in Burgundy in the Mâconnais, to produce cuvées in several appellations:
The first vintages signed as early as 2014 convinced enthusiasts of his talent who seek wines that are both precise, vibrant and energetic.
The estate therefore knows how to handle Chardonnays well, just as it does with Gamays in Beaujolais.
