Yquem 2003 Magnum
Château d'Yquem 2003 Magnum, born on the gravelly soils of Sauternes, where noble rot reveals its genius. This sweet white wine, blending Sémillon and Sauvignon, delivers aromas of rose and apricot, refined in oak barrels. The palate, luscious and lively, is utterly seductive. Ideal through 2080 alongside foie gras.
Château d'Yquem
A jewel of Sauternes, this estate has embodied the excellence of Bordeaux's sweet wines for more than four centuries, as the sole Premier Cru Supérieur in the 1855 classification.
- Terroir: 113 hectares of gravelly and clay soils in the Sauternes appellation, where morning fog and sunshine promote noble rot.
- Vinification: Berry-by-berry selection, aged for 28 months in new oak barrels, a combination of precision and patience yielding wines of rare complexity.
Tasting notes for Château d'Yquem Yquem 2003 Magnum
The eye – A golden robe with amber highlights, of silky density, like liquid honey catching the light.
The nose – First the freshness of a perfectly ripe apricot, then dried rose and candied orange zest, before opening up to notes of roasted vanilla and a saline, almost iodine-tinged touch.
The palate – A luscious, almost creamy texture, underpinned by a lively acidity that balances the sweetness; candied fruits and honey intertwine with a chalky minerality, leaving an enchantingly long finish in which fresh butter gently emerges.
Serve between 10 and 12 °C in a white Bordeaux-style wine glass to fully release its aromatic palette.
Vintage 2003
A sun-drenched vintage in which heat and drought concentrated the sugars and aromas, yielding a remarkably rich Yquem that nonetheless retains a surprising freshness.
- Aging potential: To be enjoyed through 2080, provided it is stored in a cellar at a stable temperature (12–14 °C) and away from light.
