Joseph Roty Marsannay Clos de Jeu 2023, crafted from the clay-limestone soils of Marsannay. This Pinot Noir offers notes of cherry and a peppery hint – a fresh structure, silky tannins and elegant minerality. Perfect to enjoy today or to keep for 2 to 4 years, with red meats.
Rooted for five generations in the hillsides of Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Joseph Roty perpetuates a family heritage in which respect for the terroir is paramount.
- Terroir: The vines of the Clos de Jeu, located in the Marsannay appellation, flourish on clay-limestone soils, blending chalk and marl, for wines of vibrant minerality.
- Vinification: Aged in oak barrels (including a proportion of new oak) for an expression that is both precise and silky, where the freshness of Pinot Noir dialogues with the structure of the wood.
To the eye: Deep ruby robe with garnet highlights, of a dense and luminous texture, like liquid velvet.
On the nose: Freshness of morello cherry and wild blackberry, followed by a touch of violet and liquorice, before a saline hint comes to underline the chalky minerality of the terroir.
On the palate: A silky attack, carried by a lively acidity and an elegant tension; the fine, tight tannins release a long and saline finish, where gentle spices and notes of undergrowth intertwine.
Serve at 14-16°C in a Burgundy glass to reveal its purity.
A vintage marked by balanced ripeness, where the coolness of the nights preserved the brilliance of the aromas and the tension of the fruit.
- Ageing potential: To be enjoyed now for its vivacity, or store for 5 to 8 years in a cool cellar (12-14°C) away from light.
