From the gravelly soils of Margaux, the Pavillon Rouge 2003 from Château Margaux blends Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A mineral nose with ripe fruits, a fresh palate with fine tannins, and a stony finish. Perfect with rich dishes or for cellaring to develop greater depth.
Château Margaux
A historic Bordeaux estate, rooted in the gravelly soils of Margaux since the 12th century, classified as a Premier Grand Cru in 1855.
- Terroir: Gravelly and clay-limestone ridges of the Margaux appellation, shaping wines of mineral elegance and rare precision.
- Vinification: A meticulous blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, combining tradition and innovation to reveal the purity of the fruit and the tension of the terroir.
Tasting notes for Château Margaux Pavillon Rouge 2003
To the eye – A deep ruby robe of silky density, where light reflects with an almost mineral intensity.
On the nose – First, aromas of ripe blackcurrant and wild blackberry, followed by hints of cedar and graphite, before concluding with a subtle saline note, like an echo of the estate's gravelly soils.
On the palate – A velvety yet taut texture, carried by a lively acidity and a chalky minerality; the fine, tightly knit tannins frame concentrated dark fruits, giving way to a long and aromatic finish where sweet spices and gunflint intertwine.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux glass to release its full complexity.
Vintage 2003
An early and sun-drenched vintage, in which the summer heat concentrated the grapes while preserving an unexpected freshness.
- Ageing potential: Ready to drink now, but can be cellared until 2030 under optimal conditions (stable temperature, controlled humidity).
