The Thomas Batardière Les Cocus 2019, born on the schist soils of the Clos des Cocus, is a natural Chenin Blanc aged in barrels then in stainless steel. Notes of white fruits, honey and flint, taut acidity and a saline finish. Perfect with fish or cheeses, to drink now or after a few years.
A family estate rooted in the heart of the Loire Valley, where respect for the terroir and biodynamic methods shapes wines of rare purity.
- Terroir : Schist soils of Faye d'Anjou, south-west facing hillsides, where the roots delve into the rock to draw out minerality and tension.
- Winemaking : Barrel ageing, natural fermentation and reduced sulphur, for wines that are lively and precise.
Tasting notes for the wine Thomas Batardière Les Cocus 2019
- To the eye : Golden robe with green highlights, of a silky and slightly unctuous texture, like a veil of light on the glass.
- On the nose : First, notes of green apple and acacia blossom, followed by a touch of arbutus honey, then a saline and chalky edge, like a mineral breeze rising from the schist.
- On the palate : A lively and taut attack, carried by a crystalline acidity, while the schistous minerality envelops the palate with an almost chewy texture, leading to a long and saline finish.
Serve at 12–14°C in a Burgundy-style white wine glass to release its full complexity.
Vintage 2019
A vintage marked by balanced ripeness and preserved freshness, ideal for revealing the depth of Chenin on schist.
- Ageing potential : To drink now or to cellar for 8 to 10 years in a cool, dark place.
