Tasting notes for Château Lafite Rothschild 2005
Appearance – A deep red color with garnet highlights, dense and silky like liquid velvet, already hinting at the richness of this great Pauillac. Nose – First come aromas of ripe blackcurrant and wild blackberry, followed by deeper notes of cedar, graphite and a touch of pencil lead, all lifted by a subtle salinity evocative of the Médoc’s Atlantic breezes. Palate – A smooth yet taut texture, where lively acidity and chalky minerality balance remarkably fine tannins, leading to a lingering finish marked by gentle spices and aristocratic elegance. Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux glass to bring out its full bouquet.
2005 Vintage A sunny, balanced vintage in which summer drought concentrated the fruit without diminishing its freshness, producing a wine of harmonious structure and remarkable longevity. - Aging potential: At its peak between 2025 and 2050; store in a cellar at a stable temperature (12–14°C), away from light.
