The Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Fontenys 2019 from Domaine Joseph Roty, made from old-vine Pinot Noir, reveals aromas of black fruits, spices and chalky minerality. Aged in barrels, it is taut and silky on the palate, with a persistent finish. To be savoured from 2033 onwards with game or cheeses.
A family estate rooted in the hillsides of Gevrey-Chambertin, where time seems suspended between tradition and precision.
- Terroir: clay-limestone and marly soils, typical of the Premiers Crus of Burgundy, which impart a chalky minerality and a taut elegance to the wines.
- Vinification: gentle methods – cold maceration, controlled fermentation – to preserve the purity of Pinot Noir and reveal the complexity of the old vines.
On the eye: a deep red robe with garnet highlights, of a silky and luminous density.
On the nose: aromas of ripe red fruits – black cherry, blackcurrant – intertwining with notes of peony, sweet liquorice and mineral smoke, before giving way to a hint of roasted espresso.
On the palate: a velvety texture, carried by a lively acidity and a fine tannic structure, where flavours of prune, undergrowth and a chalky minerality unfold, leading to a long and saline finish.
Serve at 16-18°C in a Burgundy glass to appreciate its precision.
A vintage marked by optimal grape ripeness, offering wines that are both concentrated and of great freshness.
- Ageing potential: to be kept until 2100 under ideal conditions – cool cellar, away from light and vibrations.
