The Sauternes and Barsac appellations are 2 neighboring controlled designations of origin (AOC) located on the left bank of the Garonne 40 km southeast of Bordeaux. The 5 communes whose territory comprises these 2 appellations are: Barsac, Bommes, Fargues, Preignac, and Sauternes. The AOC Sauternes Barsac extends over approximately 1,620 hectares for Sauternes wines and 625 hectares for Barsac wines (which may also mention the AOC Sauternes on the bottle).
