The TOP winemakers of Burgundy

On the viticulture side, the Etienne Sauzet estate first transitioned to organic farming in 2006 and then to biodynamics in 2010. The wines are aged for 12 months in barrels and then 6 months in vats. The premiers crus are aged in 20 to 30% new oak and 40% for the grands crus. The Etienne Sauzet estate holds prestigious plots in the grands crus Bienvenues Batard Montrachet, Batard Montrachet, Chevalier Montrachet and Montrachet. The Puligny Montrachet 1ers Crus are not to be outdone, with the Perrières, the Combettes and the Folatières.

Succeeding his grandfather in 1975, Jeanine Boudot then took over with her husband, and it is now Emilie Boudot and her husband Benoit Riffault who ensure the continuity of the Etienne Sauzet estate. Since the 1990s, numerous Puligny Montrachet négociant references have been added to the production of the Etienne Sauzet estate, following the split of part of the estate's vineyards during an inheritance, but it must be acknowledged that the current range of great white Burgundies from the Sauzet estate is superbly extensive and primarily composed of benchmark and top-tier crus. Four Burgundy Grands Crus form the crown jewels: Le Montrachet, Chevalier Montrachet, Batard Montrachet and Bienvenues Batard Montrachet. In Puligny Montrachet Premiers Crus, no fewer than 9 references complete the production of this renowned estate (Puligny Montrachet 1ers Crus les Combettes, 1^er Cru Champ Canet, 1^er Cru La Truffière, 1^er Cru Les Folatières, 1^er Cru Les Perrières, 1^er Cru Les Réferts, 1^er Cru Hameau de Blagny, 1^er Cru Champs Gains and 1^er Cru La Garenne). In the Village appellation, the Etienne Sauzet estate offers a Puligny Montrachet village, as well as a Chassagne Montrachet "Les Encégnières," and in regional appellations, a Bourgogne Chardonnay as well as a Hautes Côtes de Beaune "Jardin du Calvaire." All Etienne Sauzet wines are highly recommended and of remarkable quality. The style is classic, the purity of expression of the wines is frequently highlighted, and the oak integrates perfectly, ensuring their harmonious ageing. The Puligny Montrachet 1^er Cru Champ Canet is magnificent in its finesse and elegance, dense and saline, with a mineral note of the highest class. The Puligny Montrachet 1^er Cru les Combettes is a wine of sumptuous minerality, with the depth and volume of a Grand Cru. Among the four Grands Crus, the Batard Montrachet is enormous, a true ball of energy, of extreme intensity, with notes of fresh almond and a sapid, saline finish. A true must-seek for all great lovers of exceptional wines. In terms of vintages and generally speaking for white Burgundies, the most renowned are: 1989, 1996, 1999, 2002, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
