Tasting notes for Château La Gaffelière La Gaffelière 1981
To the eye – a garnet red robe with tawny highlights, of a silky density and a brilliance preserved by the decades.
On the nose – aromas of wild blackberry, candied prune, and blond tobacco, lifted by a hint of cedar and a subtle chalky salinity.
On the palate – a velvety texture, carried by a lively acidity and a persistent minerality, with a long and elegant finish marked by notes of liquorice and undergrowth.
Serving temperature: 16–18°C – Bordeaux glass to release its complex aromas.
Vintage 1981
A vintage of maturity, where the mild climate allowed the grape varieties of Saint-Émilion to achieve a fruity and spiced expression, while maintaining a balanced structure.
- Aging potential: still at its peak for lovers of evolved wines, ideally to be kept in a cool and humid cellar until 2030.
