The Hermitage 2005 from E. Guigal, sourced from the appellation's clay-limestone soils, is a 100% Syrah wine aged 36 months in oak barrels. Notes of black fruits, vanilla and spices on the nose, a structured palate with silky tannins and a mineral finish. To enjoy until 2035 with red meats or aged cheeses.
A family estate rooted in Ampuis since 1946, E. Guigal embodies the excellence of Rhône Valley wines, combining tradition and precision.
- Terroir: The granite and schist hillsides of Hermitage, bathed in sunlight, sculpt Syrah wines of a uniquely mineral depth.
- Vinification: Patient ageing in French oak barrels, where the Syrah reveals its silky power and complex aromas.
Tasting notes for E. Guigal Hermitage 2005
To the eye – A deep ruby-red robe with violet hues, dense and luminous, revealing generous substance and mature elegance.
On the nose – First notes of blackcurrant and fresh blackberry, followed by soft spices (vanilla, liquorice), then a mineral touch reminiscent of graphite, all enveloped in a subtle oak smokiness.
On the palate – A silky and taut texture, carried by a lively acidity and well-integrated yet present tannins, where black fruits, cocoa and a saline, long and persistent finish intertwine.
Serve at 16–18 °C in a Bordeaux-style red wine glass to fully release its complexity.
Vintage 2005
A sunny and well-balanced vintage, in which the summer heat ripened grapes of rare concentration while preserving a characteristic mineral freshness.
- Ageing potential: 20 years (until 2025 and beyond for bottles kept away from light and temperature variations).
