The Champagne Brut Nature R20 from Clandestin, made from Pinot Noir in the Côte des Bar, draws its minerality from Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils. Fermented in barrels and aged for 15 months, it reveals aromas of apple and spices and a taut texture. Perfect with oysters and raw fish.
Nestled in the heart of the Côte des Bar, this family estate celebrates the secret alliance between terroir and patience, guided by a quest for mineral purity.
- Terroir: Pinot Noir fully north-facing on Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils, at 200 metres altitude – a setting of freshness and tension.
- Vinification: Whole-bunch pressing, spontaneous fermentation in oak barrels and extended ageing on lees – a dosage-free signature where time sculpts elegance.
Tasting notes for Champagne Clandestin Les Semblables Boréal Brut Nature R20
In the glass: Pale gold robe with green highlights, of crystalline clarity, traversed by a delicate ribbon of fine, persistent bubbles, like silk lace.
On the nose: First, aromas of green apple and Williams pear, followed by a hint of hawthorn blossom, then gentle spices (white pepper, fresh ginger) and a saline edge, evoking iodine and damp chalk.
On the palate: A lively and precise attack, driven by taut acidity and chalky minerality; the texture, at once silky and vibrant, stretches into a long, saline finish where notes of toasted brioche and citrus zest intertwine.
Serve between 10 and 12°C in a narrow Champagne flute to preserve freshness and tension.
Vintage 2020
A vintage marked by preserved freshness, where the balance between ripeness and acidity gives birth to a Champagne of great precision, built for ageing.
- Ageing potential: Best enjoyed through 2029, or even beyond for bottles kept away from light and temperature fluctuations (12–14°C, stable humidity).
