This Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Fontenys 2021, from old vines, draws its complexity from limestone soils. Aged in new barrels, it marries raspberry and spices with a fresh and silky palate. Perfect from 2027 with a bœuf bourguignon or a magret.
A family estate rooted in Gevrey-Chambertin for six generations, Joseph Roty cultivates a heritage where precision and respect for the terroir take precedence.
- Terroir: Clay-limestone and marl soils of the Côte de Nuits, facing due east – the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Fontenys appellation draws its chalky minerality and depth from them.
- Vinification: Fermentation in concrete tanks, extended ageing in new oak barrels – an approach that preserves the purity of the Pinot Noir while sculpting a silky texture.
On the eye: A deep red robe with garnet highlights, dense and brilliant, heralding a generous substance and fine concentration.
On the nose: Aromas of fresh raspberry and black cherry intertwine with notes of violet and liquorice, before a mineral, almost saline touch underlines the complexity of the terroir.
On the palate: A silky and precise attack, carried by a lively acidity that balances an elegant tannic structure – the chalky minerality persists on the finish, leaving an impression of length and tension.
Serve between 14 and 16 °C in a Burgundy glass to fully release its aromas.
A vintage marked by a spring freshness and a moderate summer, offering wines of fine tension and balanced maturity.
- Ageing potential: To be kept until 2035 under optimal conditions (stable temperature, controlled humidity and away from light).
