The Château Mouton Rothschild 1989, a jewel of Pauillac, reveals a gravelly terroir. This wine, aged in oak barrels, seduces with its notes of blackberry and tobacco, with a precise tannic structure. Perfect until 2030 with duck breast or roast lamb.
A historic estate in Pauillac, rooted in the prestige of the Grands Crus Classés since 1855, Mouton Rothschild embodies the union of an exceptional terroir and an unbroken family legacy.
- Terroir: Deep gravels and gravelly soils of Pauillac, where Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes under a temperate oceanic climate, lending the wines a mineral structure and tannin elegance.
- Winemaking: A meticulous blend, aged 20 months in new French oak barrels, for an expression that is both powerful and refined, faithful to the Médoc tradition.
Tasting notes for Château Mouton Rothschild 1989
To the eye – A deep ruby robe with garnet highlights, of a silky density, betraying an accomplished maturity while retaining a crystalline brilliance.
On the nose – First, aromas of ripe blackcurrant and wild blackberry, followed by notes of cedar, blonde tobacco and a touch of graphite, all lifted by a subtle mineral salinity.
On the palate – A velvety texture, carried by a lively acidity and a still-present tannic framework, where sweet spices, candied black fruits and a long finish mingle, marked by a chalky minerality.
Serve at 16–18°C in a Bordeaux glass to fully release its bouquet.
Vintage 1989
An early and generous vintage, where the summer heat allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness, yielding a wine that is both opulent and balanced.
- Aging potential: Drink until 2030–2035, provided it is stored in a cool cellar (12–14°C) away from light.
